Despite being more figurative than I usually paint, Waking Up was conceived through my familiar process of allowing the images to “appear”, including a long period of intuitive painting, scraping and rotating the image; wandering without certainty until I see what is meant to be revealed. Waking Up speaks to the tenderness of familiar intimacy, and being seen by not hiding who we really are. To me, it is an echo of our longing for unconditional love.
