Three Muses (triptych)
In ancient Greece, the Muses were thought to bestow inspiration upon the creative efforts of artists and poets. The original three Muses were known as Song, Practice, and Memory. In this triptych, three figures emerge as a tribute to the long struggle that creatives often endure to avail themselves more fully to the influence of the Muses. To hear the muse, one cannot abide in a dualistic mindset, simplifying the world into “good” and “evil”. The Three Muses are depicted as figures posing in the tension between opposites, a tension that manifests as the fundamental creative force of the psyche.
