The Cocoon is a painting about a most significant psycho-spiritual transformation. After a caterpillar weaves a cocoon, its body turns to liquid form. Its up to the imaginal cells of the caterpillar to transform caterpillar goo into a butterfly. Our human developmental journey is similar in that the deepest truth of who we are is only revealed when we risk the sort of transformation that causes our first personality (the adolescent ego) to completely dissolve, wherein we must learn to trust the guidance of our own imaginal cells as they begin to reveal how we truly belong to this life.
