Nightingale is a painting in the Excavation series. In ancient Persia, the song of a nightingale is symbolic of the longing of the lover for the beloved. As with many species, the nightingale is experiencing a loss of habitat. It prefers nesting on the ground in thickets and low branches. It sings its lament at night, long after the other birds have gone to sleep. We might wonder about the importance of our own laments as we enter this collective dark night.
